Materials & Sustainability

Honest materials crafted with traditional techniques for lasting quality

Our Material Philosophy

Every material we select must meet strict criteria for durability, sustainability, and honest beauty. We work exclusively with materials that improve with age, developing character through years of use.

This commitment to quality means choosing solid hardwoods over veneers, full-grain leather over bonded materials, and metals that can be refinished rather than replaced.

  • Sustainably sourced from certified suppliers
  • Materials selected for longevity and repairability
  • Traditional finishing techniques that protect and enhance
  • Partnership with reforestation programs

Wood: The Foundation of Our Work

We work with solid hardwoods selected for grain, stability, and sustainable harvesting practices.

White oak wood texture and grain

White Oak

Prized for its strength and distinctive ray fleck pattern. Sourced from sustainably managed forests in North America.

Black walnut wood detail

Black Walnut

Rich color and smooth working properties. Each piece develops deeper tones with exposure to light over time.

Hard maple wood surface

Hard Maple

Dense and stable with subtle grain. Ideal for objects requiring precision and resistance to wear.

Metal finishing process detail

Metal: Precision and Permanence

Our metal objects combine industrial strength with handcrafted refinement. From solid brass to powder-coated steel, each piece is finished to balance durability with visual restraint.

We favor metals that develop patina naturally, creating unique character over years of use. All finishes are non-toxic and designed for long-term contact with workspace surfaces.

Solid brass material finish

Solid Brass

Develops rich patina with use. Can be polished to restore original finish or left to age naturally.

Powder-coated steel texture

Powder-Coated Steel

Durable finish in matte colors. Resistant to scratching and designed for decades of daily use.

Anodized aluminum surface

Anodized Aluminum

Lightweight yet rigid. The anodized surface provides wear resistance while maintaining clean lines.

Leather: Natural Aging Beauty

We use only full-grain vegetable-tanned leather that develops character through use.

Full-grain leather retains the complete natural grain of the hide, making each piece unique. Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins from tree bark, creating leather that ages beautifully without harsh chemicals.

Over time, the leather darkens and develops a patina shaped by your use patterns. Scratches and marks become part of the story rather than signs of wear.

  • Full-grain hides from ethical tanneries
  • Vegetable-tanned using traditional methods
  • Hand-stitched with waxed thread
  • Improves with age and develops unique patina

Ceramic crafting process

Ceramic: Hand-Formed Precision

Each ceramic piece is thrown or hand-formed by skilled artisans. We favor stoneware and porcelain for their durability and ability to maintain precise forms.

Glazes are formulated to provide soft matte surfaces that resist scratching while maintaining tactile warmth. Every piece is high-fired for lasting strength.

Commitment to Longevity

Objects designed to serve for decades, not seasons.

We design every object with repair and maintenance in mind. Wood pieces can be refinished, metal objects can be repolished, and leather develops character through conditioning.

This approach reduces waste while creating objects that become more valuable with time. Your workspace deserves objects that grow with you.
